Small Details, Big Impact

Go big or go home? Not necessarily. If you’ve recently bought a fixer-upper or if you're interested in refreshing the look of your home, you can start small.

Details matter. And updating certain small details can have a larger impact on the appearance of your home than you may think.

Check out the following 4 simple renovation ideas from US News & World Report:

#1 Paint

A fresh coat of paint can do wonders. In addition to painting a wall, you can also use paint to update other items around your home. For example, you might spruce up the front door with a different color.

Whether you refresh using the current color or if you choose a new shade, a freshly painted wall (or other design element) offers an updated, crisp look.

(And—bonus—no demolition is necessary.)

#2 Hardware

Don’t have the time or budget for a full kitchen or bathroom renovation? Start with the small details in the room, such as updating the knobs on your doors and/or drawers.

And, hint, be aware of the size requirements on your cabinets, doors, and drawers. While hardware pieces are typically sold with a standard size, size requirements can sometimes vary.

#3 Crown Molding

Adding molding to the baseboard and along the ceiling can bring an element of charm to any room. And, this addition is not all that difficult or expensive to install.

#4 Light Fixtures

The right fixture can bring just the right light to any room. Removing outdated fixtures can transform the feel of the entire room. A plethora of options exist for any décor style.

But, for safety reasons, be sure that you turn off the electricity while you are swapping out the fixture.
